Bonita Amplifies Mixer Recap

Hola Bonitas!

Let us tell you a bit about our Bonita Amplifies Mixer that we just held with our beauty client, Urban Decay. We’ll start by saying, it was a HIT! 🎉 We partnered with Lips Cafe 👄, owned by mother and son Donna and Jamane Weekes, in the heart of Little Caribbean, Brooklyn!

Last month, we launched our #BonitaAmplifies program which aims to support BIPOC creators all year long through industry mixers, creator grants, and social media features. In honor of Black History Month, we wanted to connect emerging Black creators with our industry peers to help close the gap on industry access. Attendees were able to connect with their favorite influencers from their FYP, build relationships with brand representatives and media, have some sips and bites, and even get their dance on!

Our guest list consisted of some incredible trendsetters and self-starters who we were all super excited to meet. Our turnout was incredible, hosting more than 50 guests, and included popular names like Jae Gurley AKA the Bougie Gurley, Bryan Hernandez, Jamé Jackson, and many more!

All of our new Bonitas also got to leave with some amazing goodies thanks to Urban Decay! Our gift bag was packed with the essentials, including the Vice Lip Bond Glossy Liquid Lipstick, 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil, Eyeshadow Primer Potion, Moondust Glitter Eyeshadow, and their iconic All Nighter Setting Spray.

When creating the #BonitaAmplifies Mixer, we wanted every guest to leave being able to say they made a new friend, and we can confidently say we met this goal. So many creators described the energy of the event as magical, creatives gathering in a room to share their love for their craft and the community it’s made up of. Our mission with this event was to connect emerging creators with industry peers, to hopefully, lead to new relationships and of course, partnerships!

Key Feedback from attendees included:

  • They LOVED that the event was in Brooklyn (let alone in East Brooklyn!)

  • Creators appreciated that the event felt intimate & intentional (not intimidating as other usual events).

  • Creators loved learning that we were supporting small, local businesses in the area (between Lips Cafe and Brie on the Chisme) the event left an impactful impression.

We want to give a huge shout out to Lips Cafe as well as our liquor sponsor Crown Royal, our caterer Brie On The Chisme, our photographer Eduardo Holguín, our Videographer Vince Alvarado, our DJ Jazminn Lavish,  and of course, Urban Decay for making the night truly unforgettable for all of our creators and guests.

We can’t wait to host more #BonitaAmplifies events this year, so stay tuned! 👀

Besos,
The Bonita Project Team
